Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha urges officers to intensify e-vigilance to curb crimes.

Vangalapudi Anitha emphasized the need for coordination between officers from the Prosecution and Police Departments to ensure the accused are punished and the conviction rate is improved.

Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha has instructed officers from the Prosecutions and Police Departments to enhance their understanding of the methods and detection of cyber crimes.

“While the overall crime rate in the state has decreased, cyber crimes are on the rise. Assistant public prosecutors (APPs), public prosecutors (PPs), advocates, and police officers need proper training to identify online frauds,” the Home Minister emphasized.

Speaking at the one-day State-level workshop on ‘Digital Evidence – Its Importance’, organized by the Prosecutions Department in Vijayawada on Saturday (February 15, 2025), Ms. Anitha urged the police to strengthen e-vigilance to reduce crime rates across the state.

The workshop was attended by Director of Prosecutions Byra Ramakoteswara Rao, NTR Police Commissioner S.V. Rajashekar Babu, and prosecution officers from across the state.

Ms. Anitha also highlighted the plan to install approximately 100,000 CCTV cameras across the state. She suggested, however, that it would be ideal for every household to have surveillance cameras, just like other electronic devices. She commended the lawyers and officers of the Prosecutions Department for easing the public’s mental stress through their arguments in court.

“If the PPs, APPs, and investigation officers coordinate effectively, they can gather all necessary evidence, arrange witnesses, and ensure the accused face the maximum punishment, delivering justice to the victim,” Ms. Anitha stated.

Mr. Rajashekar Babu discussed the significance of digital evidence, citing case studies that showed how critical cases were solved using CCTV footage, mobile phone data, drones, and other forms of evidence.
